Day programme: Stunning gorge - Mauthner Gorge
- Guided gorge hiking tour
- Delicious pastry from the Slow Food Master Baker Matitz
Hikers of all ages get to experience the Mauthner Gorge, one of Austria’s most spectacular gorges. The tour starts along the refreshing green-blue Valentin stream and continues on via ferrate and suspension bridges past towering rock faces. Then we climb down into the brook bed and proceed on gravel bars into the most secret, darkest part of the gorge.
Every participant gets a delicious piece of pastry from our Slow Food Master Baker Thomas Matitz as provision for the tour at the start of the adventure. Starting point of this tour is the idyllically situated forest open-air pool in Mauthen. After passing through the entrance to the rocks, the tour through the stunning gorge starts. The tour is accompanied by a specialised ranger. Participants must not be scared of water because sections of the route lead through in part knee-deep water. The tour continues past the “Heiligen Grab“ into the darkness of the Mauthner Gorge, there where the impressively high, almost vertical rocks block out the light and the babbling brook carves its way through the gorge – fascinating and stunningly beautiful.
