Safety in the Mountains

Hiking in the Alps is one of the most popular leisure activities. However, a hiking tour carries also risks if important points are not taken into account or not paid sufficient attention to, for example an approaching thunderstorm.

Rules for appropriate behaviour in the mountains

Check that you are in a fit state for a mountain tour
Plan every mountain tour precisely (maps, obtain information locally)
Ensure that you have the appropriate equipment for a mountain tour
Inform others about the route and destination of your mountain tour
Adapt your pace according to the conditions
Don't leave signposted paths
Avoid the losening of rocks, pass rockfall-hazardous sites quickly
Turn back – if the weather conditions worsen or if fog rises or if the route becomes to difficult.
In case of an accident; keep calm, make others aware of the situation by calling out, use light flashes 6 x per minute in regular intervals to attract attention, wave large pieces of clothing or your mobile phone
