Treasure hunt in a petrified primeval forest

Immerse yourself in 500 million years of Earth’s history at the GeoPark Carnic Alps and, equipped with treasure map and GPS device, go on a hunt for hidden treasures in Austria’s only petrified primeval forest.

You and your family can look forward to an exciting day on the sunny southern side of the Alps. You meet with the GeoPark ranger at the GeoTrail Laas at 10.15 am. From there you start an exciting treasure hunt. Equipped with treasure map and GPS device, the hunt leads through Austria’s only primeval forest where the search for sparkling precious stones in the refreshing brooklet starts. Getting an old village mill to work, bringing the mill wheel to run and stirring up plenty of mill dust is also part of the tour. Searching for the treasure chest beneath the old castle ruins at the Pittersberg is the highlight of this leisurely hiking tour. The tour ends with a little culinary refreshment at a nice, secluded rest area with far reaching views across the entire Upper Gailtal Valley.
