Poludnig (1999 m)

At 1,999 m, the Poludnig just barely misses the 2,000-meter mark and is a popular hiking destination due to its easy accessibility. The hike takes us through three alpine villages, past the Egger Almsee lake and the cows, horses, sheep, and goats that graze here in summer. Gailtaler alpine cheese is still produced at the Egger Alm, and the alpine inns offer local specialties such as bacon sandwiches, Kaiser-Schmarren (a type of sweet shredded pancake), or roast pork.

Upute

We leave the car at the car park in front of the Egger Alm and hike 10 minutes along the road to the Almdorf. From there we head south-east on path no. 483 in half an hour to the Schlosshüttensattel (1453 m), the border with Italy. Here we turn left towards the east and climb steeply uphill in a forest aisle. After about 1 hour we leave the forest behind us and enjoy a marvellous view, which increases towards the summit. After a good 2 - 2 1/2 hours in total, we have reached the summit. On a clear day you can see the Großglockner. The descent is eastwards to the Poludnigalm, 1710 metres. From the Poludnigalm via path 483 to the Dellacher Alm and from there along the road or south of the Egger Almsee lake back to the starting point. There are also possible variants on the descent - see signposts - but these are not Alpine Club trails.
