Attraverso pendii di montagna quasi infiniti, alture a forma di dossi e sentieri carichi di storia, molto lunghi e molto solitari nel cuore delle Alpi Carniche.

Suggerimento

Esistono documenti che attestano come sin dal XIII secolo si produca formaggio sui pascoli della valle del Gail. La tradizione casearia viene trasmessa da 700 anni di generazione in generazione nelle singole famiglie. Attraverso un uso attento delle risorse che la natura ci mette a disposizione, gli alpeggiatori contribuiscono alla conservazione del bellissimo paesaggio culturale.

Così anche nell'alpe Rattendorfer, uno dei 13 alpeggi associati in questa regione, che producono il „Formaggio d'alpe Gailtaler g.U.“ secondo un metodo tradizionale stabilito. Il „g.U.“ sta in tutta Europa per „Denominazione di Origine Protetta“ - del sapore e dell'onestà di questo prodotto vi convincerete sicuramente dopo il percorso di montagna ricco di esperienze fino all'Hochwipfel.

Nel rifugio dell'alpe Rattendorfer.

Questo era dal 1915 al 1917 un importante centro di rifornimento a ridosso del fronte con numerose baracche e magazzini e la stazione a monte della funivia che saliva dalla valle del Gail. Verso la cresta di confine si trovano ancora oggi numerosi ingressi di caverne per lo più crollate, resti di fondamenta, trincee di marcia e di fucilazione.

Se si cammina per circa 30 minuti in salita dall'alpe Rattendorfer su un vecchio sentiero di guerra, si raggiunge – appena sotto la „Zanklhütte“ – la cappella Scotti. Davanti ci sono basamenti di fondamenta e una piccola superficie piana di un ex cimitero militare. La cappella, quasi in rovina, è stata restaurata in modo esemplare nel 1980/81 grazie a un’iniziativa locale. All'interno si trova un quadro d’altare che rappresenta l’arcangelo Michele, firmato da „Feldwebel Cerny, k.k. steirisches Landsturminfanteriebaon Nr. 150, 1916“.

Equipaggiamento

Questa varia a seconda della stagione. Ma sempre da portare con sé: abbigliamento da montagna funzionale, giacca antivento, copricapo, abbigliamento/protezione antipioggia, scarponi da montagna, provviste, bevande a sufficienza, biancheria di ricambio, vari effetti personali come macchina fotografica, cellulare, protezione solare, occhiali da sole, kit di pronto soccorso, ecc.

Indicazioni

Al margine sud del paese di fondovalle Rattendorf – proprio nella zona della conca valliva – trovate l’inizio della strada di montagna ben curata (strada sterrata) in direzione dell'alpe Rattendorfer. Dopo alcune curve vi accoglie già il letto del ruscello Doberbach costruito con massicci blocchi di roccia. In questa zona si passa anche un incrocio di sentieri. A destra si va all'alpe Rattendorfer Riegel. Questa strada la lascerete semplicemente „sulla destra“ e proseguirete dritto. Ma dovreste ricordarvi questo incrocio, perché potrebbe capitarvi di passare di nuovo qui durante la discesa alternativa dall'Hochwipfel. Dopo aver passato la sbarra al margine inferiore dell’area dell'alpe (chiudetela sempre dopo il passaggio) la strada conduce con poche ultime curve su prati alpini aperti fino al parcheggio proprio sotto l'alpe Rattendorfer.

Starting from the parking lot below the Rattendorfer Alm you will reach the Alm itself in a few minutes. From here, keeping to the right, you turn south and ascend to the "Zanklhütte" after about 100 m. Above the hut a marked stone shows you the way to SW. Now you only have to walk on the well recognizable path and enjoy the treeless mountain world with its lush vegetation. Passing below the Hüttenkofel (from the top left, the ring wall looks down on you), the path leads in easy climbs and short flat passages towards the top of the mountain. In the last section immediately below the summit structure, you mobilize your strength once again and look forward to the imminent summit victory.

Once they reach the summit cross, they will find that the efforts of the climb were well worth it. Because the panorama is both magnificent and tremendous:

To the north, the Gailtal Alps with the mighty rock massif of the Reißkofel are just off the coast. Behind it the Hohe Tauern and various mountain groups of Upper Carinthia. From the west, the highest elevation in the Carnic Alps greets you at 2,780 m - the Hohe Warte. A little further north you can see the Lienz Dolomites, and on a clear day, the Großglockner. In the east, for example, the striking features of the Trogkofel and Gartnerkofel cannot be overlooked. And the beauty of the Julian Alps in the south speaks for itself anyway.

Let it all sink in during your well-deserved break at the summit. You have "earned" this moment for yourself.

DESCRIPTION OF THE WAY (descent):

For the descent you can choose between two options:

Either you return to the Rattendorfer Alm on the ascent path or you take the path over the ridge to the east and slightly NE, past the upper edge of the wind shovel, towards the Rattendorfer Riegelalm (1,529 m). From there, you can return along the gravelled alpine path - including numerous marked shortcuts - to the crossroads that you remembered during your car drive to the Rattendorfer Alm a few hours ago. The fact that from here they are not spared the way back to the car is only mentioned in passing. But in view of a hearty snack on the Rattendorfer Alm, even this should not be a problem anymore. In a way, as the crowning glory of a challenging mountain tour.
