Geotrail Zollnersee
Hardly any other landscape in the Carnic Alps is as beautiful or diverse as that surrounding the Zollner mountain. The beautiful Lake Zollnersee, wetland areas, moors, scree, gently rolling hills and rugged mountains shape the landscape here. They are the result of the interplay of rocks, mountain-forming processes, Ice Age glaciers, the climate, weathering and human activity. From the Middle Ages in particular, the alpine pasture areas were significantly extended through forest clearing work. The first documentation of the Zollner Alm dates back to the year 1444.
The Zollner region is also home to one of the key sites for understanding the geological evolution of the Carnic Alps. At one stopping point the interface between two rock types tells the entire history of this imposing mountain chain, close to the Italian border.
Puzzle
At each stopping point, there are one or two letters printed in the text which look different from the others. Write these letters down and re-arrange them to find the solution. You will find out whether you are right when you get back to the GeoPark visitor centre in Dellach – and collect your reward!
