The most snow in Austria! (Winter 2013/2014)

For several months in winter 2013/14, Nassfeld was not only the snowiest resort in Austria but also one of the snowiest resorts in the whole of Europe. This was the result an area of low pressure moving in from the Adriatic and depositing large quantities of snow over the Carnic Alps, a frequent phenomenon that has earned Nassfeld a reputation as the snow paradise of the Eastern Alps. In total, over 12 metres of snow fell on Nassfeld in winter 2013/2014.  The average in recent years has been between 7 and 8 metres – all thanks to the region's unique microclimate.
