The Großfrondell Alm is managed by the Agrarian Community of Großfrondell Alpe and is located at an altitude of 1,530 m above sea level. A total of 12 dairy cows are kept for the production of Gailtaler Almkäse g.U., as well as for Schotten, alpine butter, and quark. The Großfrondell Alm is also well-suited for chamois hunting and has a high population of black grouse, roe deer, marmots, and red deer.
From the Großfrondell Alm, a historically significant tour can start to the Köderkopf height, where the front line was during the First World War and many positions can still be seen. Here, the Karnische Höhenweg (KHW 403) runs along the ridge of the Carnic Alps. From there, you also have a wonderful view of the adjacent Italian mountain landscape and the characteristic mountain peaks towards the Plöckenpass.
The Großfrondell Alm can be reached by car via Kronhof. Just before the Untere Bischof Alm, the road to the Großfrondell Alm branches off.
It is open from mid-June until the alpine drive!
