Infinite possibilities for bikers: That’s something you can hardly ever take quite as literally as on the sunny side of the Alps. 46 mountain bike and bicycle routes spanning a total of 950 kilometres in the Bike World make bikers’ hearts beat faster. From stunning scenic views of the Carnic, Gailtal and Julian Alps to refreshing dips in Lake Presseggersee or Lake Weissensee. And not to mention the sunny Mediterranean climate, the fresh mountain air and culinary stops that invite you to have a taste of Austria and Italy.

Biking holiday guests have all the reason to get excited: Many of the routes not only run across Austrian terrain but all the way over to Italy. What’s more, bikers of all ages have a multitude of options to choose from. “Easy & Family”, “Tour & Trail” or “Enduro & Parks” – what’s it going to be for you? Choose your pick from the diverse possibilities – and experience your own personal bike adventure in the Nassfeld-Pressegger See region!

The new routes with integrated trails connecting Austria and Italy aren’t the only surprising feature of the Bike World of the Carnic and Gailtal Alps. Besides the cross-border routes, the PAPIN bike rental system is yet another “nice surprise”. It allows you to rent your bike at any of the rental stations and return it anywhere as well. Just as surprisingly easy and convenient: bike transport by summer cable car or lift in the Nassfeld region and in Weissensee.

Together with our Italian neighbours, we are able to provide our guests with a bike destination that thrills its visitors. A sheer limitless number of possibilities and a diverse world of routes, in which bikers feel right at home. This holds true for downhill lovers who can really get into gear on the many MTB routes. As well as for the flow enthusiasts, who definitely get their money’s worth on the “MEX – Line 1” flow trail. Enduro bikers find a perfect terrain on the “Nature-Lines” on the Madritsche. And of course, there are plenty of routes for pleasure-seeking riders, e-bikers and families as well.

Especially young bike enthusiasts love variety and surprises. Well-conceived themed trails combine having fun in the Bike World with learning more about the region. The best example of a family-friendly route is the Carnic Milky Way. On this route, family members of all ages can learn more about the history of the mountain pastures and huts – and at the same time, get a taste of the Nassfeld-Pressegger See region.

A world for e-bikers and pleasure-loving riders

Sports or relaxation? While e-biking in the Nassfeld-Pressegger See region, they both go hand in hand. Thanks to motorised support, even far-away destinations become easy to reach. Up in the mountains or by the lake, in Austria or in Italy: The Nassfeld region is perfect for those longing for varied moments of bike joy in two countries.

Relaxing loops around lakes, leisurely tours to Alpine pastures and through forests, or beautiful scenic rides along the river Gail: Pleasure-loving bikers will find a multitude of easy routes with little elevation gain.

If you’d still like to explore the region in higher altitudes, you can cover part of the distance by taking the summer cable cars or public transportation.

Testing your skills

A world for mountain bikers and downhillers

Trying a different mountain bike route every day? Why not! That’s easily done thanks to the variety of routes in the Bike World – whether you prefer uphill climbs, downhill rides or trails on flat terrain. If you like, you can even cross borders on your MTB. Great tip for downhillers: the Trail World with its nine different single tracks and the new flow trail.

Pastures & huts for diverse moments of pleasure

Besides sporty pleasures, culinary joys play an important role in the Nassfeld-Pressegger See region. Due to the region’s close proximity to Italy, a well-deserved break at one of the mountain huts quickly turns into a tour of exploration for your taste buds. 46 huts on Alpine pastures collectively create a special Culinary World in the World of Mountains & Lakes.

The must-sees in the Bike World

  • R3 Gailtal cycle route

    The 90-kilometre route runs parallel to the Italian border and is seamed with charming little villages, traditional farmhouses and culinary highlights.

  • R3B Gitschtal cycle route
    Families feel right at home on the R3B Gitschtal cycle route. The same goes for pleasure-loving bikers who enjoy picturesque – and easy – routes. 

  • Alpe-Adria cycle route
    Along a former railroad line, this multi-stage route leads you to the Italian “lavender city” of Venzone. Extra sporty riders can even follow the route all the way to Grado and the Adriatic Sea. 

  • Carnic Milky Way
    Special star constellation routes on this unique themed trail let bike enthusiasts go on a tour of exploration between dairy pastures and star constellations. 

  • Trail World
    The single tracks and flow trail in the Nassfeld-Pressegger See region and in Weissensee are perfect for action-fuelled adventures in the mountains.

Tip: Guided bike tours led by locals are a great way to discover the highlights and hidden gems of the region.

  • Have a look the current weather report and forecast! Is there any danger of storms, for instance?

Check your bike: brakes, tyres, gear shift, …! Is everything intact and working smoothly?

GREEN - TREKKING asphalt and gravel roads on even terrain
BLUE - EASY asphalt and gravel roads with a slight gradient and up to 250 m of elevation gain  
RED - MEDIUM DIFFICULTY asphalt and gravel roads with a moderate gradient and up to 900 m of elevation gain  
BLACK - CHALLENGING primarily gravel roads with up to 1,400 m of elevation gain
BLACK DIAMOND -VERY CHALLENGING long single-track sections with more than 1,400 m of elevation gain
