Local Museum SCHLOSS MÖDERNDORF

Schloss Möderndorf reflects the history of the middle Gail Valley. It is surrounded by agricultural buildings and stands out due to its cubic, three-story structure. Several stylistic periods can be seen in the building fabric.

The name of the castle first appears in documents in 1331 in the parish register of Hermagor.

Today, Schloss Möderndorf enjoys an excellent reputation as a regional museum for folk culture.

The building houses the culturally and historically significant collection of the Essl family from Hermagor. Across four floors,

numerous exhibits provide insights into important developments of the respective eras. Particularly interesting exhibits include, for example, the

300 million-year-old Sigillaria fossil from the Carnic Alps, the Luther Bible from 1541, as well as an original Obergailtaler cheese with farming tools.

The castle is located very close to the bike path and is a special recommendation for pedal enthusiasts.

There is plenty of open space and green area around the historic building, providing an idyllic setting for relaxing breaks in a romantic atmosphere.
