Cross-country skiing without borders

Beautiful trails between 600 m and 1500 m altitude

The Nassfeld region and its partner destinations form one of the largest cross-country skiing centres in Carinthia. This gentle yet invigorating winter sport is the perfect alternative to alpine skiing, combining peace and quiet with fresh air and beautiful natural surroundings. Some of the trails in the region lead through snowy forests, while others contain challenging ascents for advanced cross-country skiers. Indeed, several trails even lead over the Nassfeld Pass and into neighbouring Italy.

"Panorama Loipe Tröpolach Rattendorf" trail (T3): 8.2 km - intermediate - 65 hm - Classic & Skating (16)

This is a challenging but picturesque trail with a lot of climbing. The first kilometre is on the same trail as the "Panorama Loipe", towards the village of Tröpolach. It then branches off and leads along the edge of a forest before crossing a bridge and returning to the start in Rattendorf.

Entry: Rattendorf (car parking available)
New: with snowmaking facility!

"Tröpolach" trail (T2): 5,6 km - easy - 53 hm - Classic & Skating   (15)

Fit skiers looking for a challenge will find exactly that at the "Panorama Loipe". The trail starts in Rattenfdorf, crosses the Doberbach stream and continues through a forest section towards Tröpolach. A mixture of climbs and descents surrounded by stunning landscape.

Entry: Rattendorf (car parking available)

Practice trail Tröpolach (lower terminal Millennium-Express): 0.4 km - easy - 5 hm - Classic & Skating

"Rattendorf" trail (T1): 4 km - easy  42 hm - Classic & Skating  (14)

This trail is ideal for beginners looking for a cross-country adventure. It begins in Rattendorf with a gentle 1.5 km climb, followed by a short descent and two more short climbs back to the starting point. The trail is particularly good for inexperienced skiers and those with little time.

Higher trails at Nassfeld

"Nassfeld - Pramollo lake trail": 2.3 km - easy - 77 hm - Classic & Skating  (9)

This trail begins directly behind the former customs building in Italy and follows the shore of the picturesque Lago Pramollo. Both beginners and advanced skiers will enjoy this trail. The first section is relatively easy, but skiers should start slowly in order to have enough energy left for the gentle climb back to the starting point following the descent to the lowest point on the trail, which is also the turning point.

Entry: Border to Italy

"Tressdorfer Alm" trail: 1.9 km - 61 hm - intermediate - Classic   (11)

This trail starts just below the cable car station near the Tressdorfer Alm. The first section is a short but steep descent (less experienced skiers can walk down), followed by rolling hills as far as the crossroads. The trail then continues through the forest as far as the turning point. The return leg leads along the same trail, through the forest and over the road back to the starting point. Skiers can enjoy fantastic views of the Carinthian Alps. From the information board at the Sonnenalpe, the "Tressdorfer Alm" can be easily reached on foot using the winter hiking trail.

Entry: Tressdorfer Alm

Nordic Competence Center in Tröpolach

The Nordic Competence Center at the bottom station of the Millennium Express cable car is the place to be for fans of cross-country skiing and biathlon. The practice trail is equipped with snow-making facilities and used by the instructors from the cross-country skiing school to introduce beginners to the sport step by step.

More experienced skiers curious to have a go at biathlon can try out the Laser Biathlon that enables amateurs to experience this unique sport combining cross-country skiing and shooting.
