Step by Step Through Advent

Advent Walking Trail at Nassfeld

Sometimes, it doesn't take much to feel the magic of Advent: snow beneath your feet, warm lights glowing between the trees, the peaceful silence of a winter evening, and a trail that crosses borders.

This is exactly the feeling that accompanies you along the ADVENTO Advent Walking Trail at Nassfeld. Stretching approximately 1.3 kilometres, the circular trail winds through the winter landscape at Nassfeld Pass / Passo Pramollo. Carefully designed lighting installations illuminate the trees, forest, and special spots along the way, creating a magical atmosphere while allowing nature to remain the star of the show.

And the best part: You don't have to visit on market days to enjoy the Advent walking trail. It is open daily from 5 December 2026 to 10 January 2027, with free admission.

Tip: If you're looking for peace, quiet, and a magical winter atmosphere, discover ADVENTO on non-market days, when the trail reveals its especially tranquil side.

Four Locations. One Advent Experience.

Meeting Point at the Border

Where Austria and Italy Come Together

The ADVENTO circular trail begins and ends where the unique spirit of this Advent experience can truly be felt: at the border between Austria and Italy.

On ADVENTO market days, this area transforms into a lively meeting place filled with regional culinary delights, traditional crafts, and music. From here, the trail continues across the border and into an Advent experience that brings two countries together.

Lago Pramollo | Nassfeld Lake

Italian Delights Meet Winter Magic

Just a few steps further, the Italian side of ADVENTO awaits. Around the wintry Lago Pramollo, atmospheric lights and stunning mountain scenery blend with the Italian zest for life.

On market days, Friulian specialities, regional products, and Italian handicrafts add to the festive Advent experience. The illuminated trail seamlessly connects the Italian area with the Austrian side.

Benvenuti in Italia – right in the heart of Advent.

Nassfeld Chapel

A Special Place to Pause and Reflect

Just above the lake stands the historic Nassfeld Chapel – small, simple, and all the more perfect for a moment of peace and quiet.

Here, history, Advent, and the unique location along a centuries-old connection between North and South come together. A place to pause, take in the surroundings, and perhaps simply enjoy a few moments of stillness.

Winter Forest

Light. Silence. Winter Magic.

As the trail leads into the forest, ADVENTO becomes quieter. Warm lights glowing between snow-covered trees, crisp winter air, and the peaceful mountain landscape accompany you along the way.

Here, no grand spectacle is needed. Winter itself becomes the experience.

The four areas – Meeting Point at the Border, Nassfeld Lake/Lago di Pramollo, Nassfeld Chapel, and Winter Forest – form the main highlights of the circular trail.

Ten Days of Culinary Delights, Traditional Crafts and Music

Advent Market at Nassfeld

On ten selected days, the ADVENTO trail comes alive with even more festive atmosphere. Market areas open on both the Austrian and Italian sides, transforming the Advent walking trail into a cross-border Advent market connecting Carinthia and Friuli.

Look forward to regional specialities from Austria and Italy, authentic traditional crafts, live music, and choir performances – all set against the stunning winter mountain scenery of Nassfeld.

On the Austrian side, discover local flavours and specialities from the Gailtal Valley, while on the Italian side, delicious treats from Friuli bring a touch of Italian charm and festive spirit to Advent.

And because ADVENTO is not a traditional Christmas market held in one single location, it's worth exploring the entire trail: music, culinary delights, and memorable encounters await at different spots along the way.

The journey is the destination – and the border becomes a meeting place.
