03 Southern Alps Trail, E22: Valentinalm - Hochweißsteinhaus

From the Valentinalm guesthouse we follow the marking that leads us over the Valentintörl down an old lasting snowfield to the Wolayersee.

Over the Giramondopass we reach the Italian side with the alpine huts Casera Sissanis di sopra and sotto as well as Casera Fleons di sotto and sopra, then over the Öfnerjoch to the Hochweißsteinhaus.

Suggestion

From the Valentintörl there is the possibility to climb the Rauchkofel at 2460 m above sea level.

Equipment

Sturdy hiking boots, possibly hiking poles

Every backpack should contain: rain, cold, sun protection, first aid kit, mobile phone (European emergency number 112), sufficient fluids, regional hiking map.

Directions

From the A2 South Motorway exit HERMAGOR onto Gailtalstraße 111 via Hermagor to Kötschach-Mauthen. Then via Plöckenpass road to Gh. Plöckenhaus.
