Hermagor (600 m) - Guggenberg (1120 m)

The Guggenberg can be described as the local mountain of Hermagor. In past times, skiers made their turns here, but now it is quite overgrown. Nevertheless, especially from the hospitality businesses Hauser and Waldemar, there are beautiful views down to Hermagor and the Pressegger See, while from higher up there are mainly views into the Gail Valley. The paths mainly lead through forest and are easy to walk.
Equipment
Normal hiking equipment.
Directions
From the A2 South Motorway, exit Hermagor and continue on the B111 to Hermagor. In Hermagor, drive on the B111 southwest towards Höhenweg, pass the roundabout and turn right 800 m later onto 10.-Oktober-Straße/Weißensee Str./B87. Continue on Weißensee Str./B87 to the post distribution center.

Directions

South of the Hermagor post office distribution centre, head west on Guggenbergstraße, climbing slightly to the first bend. There, a marked path branches off into the forest. The path leads over a small stream through high forest to a forest road, which is used as a toboggan run in winter. Immediately afterwards, the path with trail no. 4 branches off to the left and leads relatively steeply to the road. Another option is the accompanying gravel path, which is used as a toboggan run in winter and reaches the road in the area of the meadow. Now follow the path uphill towards Guggenberg at the edge of the forest and then walk past a farm until you reach the Guggenberg church, return the same way (approx. 2.5 hours there and back).

(=> this option is shown graphically on the map)

Option 2:
After reaching the tarmac road, continue to the right, past the Hauserhof (refreshment stop) and enjoy the wonderful view of the valley until you reach the Waldemar inn with its well-known products. From there, choose the descent west of the inn, along the edge of the forest and a stream into the forest and descend to Möschach, path no. 8, where you will find the Lerchenhof inn from the Biedermeier period. Follow Weißensee Straße along the pavement back to Hermagor and the starting point. Total walking time for this variant approx. 2 hours.
