To the Hochwipfel (2,195 m) via the Rattendorfer Alm

To the west of the Rattendorfer Alm rises the Hochwipfel (2,195 m). The hike leads above the tree line to this beautiful viewpoint mountain overlooking the entire Gail valley, which is located slightly in front of the main Karnisch ridge.
The descent can also be done via the Rattendorfer Riegelalm as a circular route.

Suggestion

At the Rattendorfer Alm, "Gailtaler Almkäse" is produced, a typical regional delicacy made on a total of 13 alpine pastures in the Gail valley.

Directions
From the A2 South Motorway, take the Hermagor exit and continue on the B111 to Hermagor. At the roundabout, take the 2nd exit and pass through Hermagor towards Kötschach Mauthen. Continue along the federal road to Jenig. In the village, turn left towards Rattendorf. In Rattendorf, turn right and drive on a good gravel road to the Rattendorfer Alm.

Directions

From the Rattendorfer Alm, head south-west and follow trail 417 towards the wooden church and the so-called Zanklhütte (approx. ¾ h). You hike across alpine pastures past the so-called ring wall - the name is based on the rock formations - northwards, through a very varied landscape to the state border. From there, head north over a grassy, partly rocky ridge to the summit, which is reached after around 2 hours. Very nice view. Return as for the ascent. If you have walked to the Rattendorfer Alm, you can descend from the summit to the Riegelalm and then reach the Rattendorfer Almweg from there.
