Willibald Adrian Metzger is putting down roots in his small garden - and digging up what should have stayed buried.
The butcher is the main character in the well-known crime series by Thomas Raab: a restorer of old furniture, a wine lover, a loner - and always reluctantly embroiled in murder cases. His long-time love is called Danjela.
After his existence has been completely destroyed, the butcher starts anew with his wife Danjela - in the small garden. Surrounded by garden gnomes and vegetable patches, he feels out of place, but peace eludes him: the quarrelsome widow Wiskozil suddenly lies suspiciously still in the hot tub. It quickly becomes clear: in the neighborhood, not only salad is flourishing, but also crime. Thomas Raab humorously narrates the quirky microcosm behind the garden fence - and of the butcher, who must assert himself in the thicket of love, lies, and corpses.


Thomas Raab, born in 1970 in Vienna, discovered his love for music early - the piano became free psychotherapy. After a difficult school time, he graduated in 1988, later studying mathematics and sports. He was a teacher for ten years, simultaneously active in musical theater and working as a songwriter. Since 2007, he has been successfully writing novels, mainly about the restorer Willibald Adrian Metzger - most recently "The Butcher Digs Up" (2024). His "Silent - Chronicle of a Murderer" has also received numerous awards. Currently, the sharp-witted Mrs. Huber is investigating, most recently in "Peter Comes Later".
