Ski tour Niedergail - Mittagskofel

The Mittagskofel is one of the lookout mountains of the Lesachtal and is also a worthwhile route in winter. The ascent from Niedergail leads over the alpine road and then across the alpine meadows of the Niedergail Alm up to the summit.

Directions

From Kötschach-Mauthen, take the B111 westwards until just before the village of Liesing, turn left towards Niedergail, then follow the signs to the Gailerhof. From Lienz/East Tyrol, turn at Tassenbach towards Obertilliach/Maria Luggau and follow the road; shortly after the village of Liesing, turn right towards Niedergail and follow the description above to the start of the route.

Vom Weiler Niedergail führt der erste Teil des Aufstieges über den Alm-/Forstweg bis zur Hirtenhütte auf der Niedergailer Alm. Ein Abkürzen durch den Wald ist kaum möglich, bzw. bringt keinen Zeitgewinn mit sich. Sowie man die ersten Almwiesen erreicht, geht es in süd-/westlicher Richtung bis zu einer weitläufigen Hochfläche (oberhalb der Liesinger Hochalm). Nun dreht man nach Süden ab und quert einen Teil des Gipfelaufbaus. Zur rechten recht es nun über den etwas steileren Osthang bis zum Gipel des Mittagskofels. Die Abfahrt erfolgt entlang der Aufsteigsspur wieder zur Ortschaft Niedergail.
