Slow Food | Gailtaler Almkäse

A leisurely hike from the Sonnenalpe Nassfeld with a stop at two typical cheese dairies - an enjoyable discovery tour around the Gailtaler Almkäse.

Suggestion
  • Buy fresh Gailtaler Almkäse directly on site
  • Be sure to try it: the spicy, aromatic Gailtaler Almkäse PDO is a genuine Slow Food product - traditionally handmade and made with milk from grazing cattle in the region

  • Visit other cheese dairies nearby: Rudnig Alm, Tröpolacher Alm

Equipment

Sturdy shoes, drink, rain protection.

Directions

If you want to start the tour in the valley, take the Millenium Express from Tröpolach and then the Madritschenbahn to the Sonnenalpe.

(Bikes can be taken on both cable cars!)

Alternatively, you can also reach the Sonnenalpe by car via the B90 Nassfeldpass.
