DESCRIPTION Explore the Lesachtal-Gailtal-Gitschtal-Weissensee region – the world's first Slow Food Travel destination - by bike! Cycle effortlessly from producer to producer along well-developed cycle paths in picturesque natural surroundings. Make time for sampling the products on site, chat with the producers and learn about their passion for food production. Don't forget to bring a large rucksack or side bag in case you want to do some shopping. These tours are not just about the distance travelled. Most of all, they are about the combination of being active in beautiful natural surroundings and discovering delicious treasures. Enjoy a unique experience of tastes and flavours, produced according to the Slow Food motto "good, clean, fair" by people with a great appreciation for our planet.

ROUTE CHARACTERISTICS The tour leads along the very well-developed Gailtal Cycle Route on flat sections, making it suitable for both e-bikes and classic bikes. The tour is suitable for children aged 12 and older.

ROUTE IN DETAIL

FRIDAY, 7 JUNE 2024 Discover the beauty of Carinthia on an unforgettable day tour full of culinary highlights and amazing landscapes! Start at 10am with a special highlight: the Slow Food experience "Shopping with the fine food grocer" at Herwig Ertl’s in Kötschach. Enter a world of regional flavours and treat yourself to Herwig's exquisite products. Enjoy delicious samples and discover the variety of regional specialities from the Lesachtal, Gailtal and Gitschtal valleys as well as the idyllic Lake Weissensee. This unforgettable experience takes around two hours. You then continue your journey with a relaxed bike tour along the Gailtal Cycle Route back to Hermagor, with a length totalling around 35 kilometres. Along the route, you stop for a short break at the Neuwirth family in Gundersheim to reward yourself with a delicious farmhouse ice cream and recharge your batteries. The return journey by bike bus from Hermagor to Kötschach-Mauthen is scheduled for 4.33pm. Once returned, you can end the day with unforgettable memories of culinary delights and picturesque landscapes.

TIP FOR YOUR ARRIVAL We recommend arriving by bike bus from Oberdrauburg (connection to S1 from Villach or Lienz at 8.39am), departing at 9.09am and arriving in Kötschach at 9.32am. Reservation for bikes on the bus required - by calling the Hermagor Mobilbüro office at +43 664 88 611 685 by 6pm the day before. An on-demand bus must be arranged for the return journey to Oberdrauburg. The costs vary depending on the size of the group.
