Transition from the Zollnersee Hütte to the Alpenhof Plattner

The hike is characterised by its scenic beauty and variety, but also by the historical peculiarity of the region. Old fortifications from the time of the war in the mountains can still be seen along the way and serve as a reminder of the dark past. The trail alternates between the Austrian and Italian sides and ends in the large Nassfeld ski area. The ski area is not pretty to look at, but fortunately the fantastic overall impression of the hike is not spoilt. With the great impressions in your mind, you can cope with the "nature/culture shock".
Equipment

Directions

From the Zollnersee hut (1750m), walk past the lake and turn left at the fork in the path. (To the right would be via Lodinpass, Findenigkofel and Lodintörl until the paths meet again before the Straniger Alm. This is a very beautiful variant with more metres in altitude) and then along the north side of the Findenigkofel (2016m). Near the fork in the path below the Lodintörl (where both variants meet again) you can see an old position from the Gebiergskrieg. The trail continues eastwards, straight ahead at the crossroads to a forest road which you follow to the right in the direction of Straniger Alm. But instead of turning off to the alpine pasture, follow the road into the forest above the alpine pasture up to the Gugel (1686 m), where you follow the wide path past the Kleinkordinalm (the alpine pasture is farmed and offers excellent cheese from its own production) and climb up to the saddle (1749 m). There you walk eastwards towards the ring wall, turn right at the fork in the path and walk southwards past the foot of the ring wall. At the Rattendorfer Schneid you can see a trench which you walk past. You pass the Trogkofel also to the south via the Italian side and reach the first foothills of the ski area at a saddle. Descend via Madritschen to the Nassfeld Pass (1530m) and from there follow the road past the memorial church to Alpenhof Plattner (1600m).
