The three Carnic
Alpine Villages

Egger Alm - Dellacher Alm - Poludnig Alm

Discover a unique natural landscape where you will completely forget the stress of everyday life. Because time seems to stand still and only harmony surrounds you here. Nestling in an alpine valley high above Hermagor, the three idyllic “Carnic Alpine Villages“ are situated directly at the Carnic High Route. The alpine pastures are easily reached via Möderndorf near Hermagor and the tarmacked Eggeralm State Road (L23).

The idyllic landscape aside, the farmers of the Egger Alm, Dellacher Alm and the Poludnig Alm offer many traditional culinary specialities. Top products like the Gailtal Valley Alpine Cheese – PDO-awarded by the EU – for example are made in the traditional way by Elisabeth, the charming master cheese maker on the Egger Alm.

Hiking with pleasure & eating with a hearty appetite

Once arrived in the alpine high valley, a vast hiking area stretches from the Egger Alm (1422 m) to the Poludnig, with its 1999 m ”almost a two-thousander“. The easy hiking tour up to the peak of the Poludnig will be definitely rewarding since an extensive view across the surrounding mountain ranges is waiting at the top: there is the Großglockner in the Upper Tauern to the north and the Julian Alps in Slovenia and Italy to the south.

From hearty alpine jause to homemade Carinthian cheese pasta and Kaiserschmarrn – the rustic alpine inns of the three Carnic Alpine Villages serve many delicious Gailtal Valley specialities. A must for all lovers of nature and culinary art!

Discover nature: Alpine lake, forest and alpine meadow flowers

An idyllic small alpine lake nestles in the high valley between the Egger Alm and the Dellacher Alm - Lake Egger Alm-See in 1399 m above sea level. Walks around the lake invite to enjoy and relax. Explorers of all ages will find typical alpine herbs and flowers and small newts in the lake. There is of course plenty to discover in the surrounding forest or one simply enjoys the calming effect of this location.

Unwind & relax

No electricity, no running water and no mobile phone reception – this may sound terrible at first but you will find sublime inner calm as soon as you immerse yourself in this idyll. Beautiful nature and the idyll invite to total relaxation and chilling-out away from the stress and hectic of everyday life.

The many animals of an alpine farm are of course a highlight for the youngest. There are cows, horses and sheep (only on the Poludnig Alm), spending their "summer holidays" on the alpine pasture. At the Poludnig even marmots living in the wild can be watched from a distance.

Our tips for tours around the three Carnic Alpine Villages:

Winter wonderland on an alpine pasture

Although the tarmacked Egger Alm State Road is closed for cars during winter, the Egger Alm is still a popular excursion destination for tour skiers. Tasty specialities from the Alpine cuisine await you at Rudi’s Inn even in winter (open from December until April from Wednesday to Sunday).
